Describe the Change in Drainage
Tell the team when the slowing began and whether wastewater has returned through another fixture. A blockage near one fixture is different from a restriction along shared piping. The pattern helps direct the investigation without asking you to locate the obstruction yourself.
Stop using a fixture once it begins backing up to avoid adding to the overflow.
Progressive slowing can be easy to put off while water still eventually drains. Once wastewater returns, continued use can spread it into the room. Tell us if the change developed gradually or appeared after a particular use, and if it has happened before.
The visible fixture gives a starting point, but connected lines may carry the restriction farther away. A tub receiving water while laundry drains and a sink that alone drains slowly need different attention. We assess the reported pattern and accessible piping rather than relying on a citywide assumption about the cause.
Stay away from backed-up water near electrical equipment. Keep people clear of wastewater and leave drain access caps in place. Report any cleaning products or tools used before the visit.

Understand Escondido Sewer-Lateral Responsibility
The sewer lateral is the connection between the building and the public sewer main. Escondido’s Wastewater Collections guidance explains that residents and businesses maintain and repair their lateral, including the part beneath the sidewalk and street.
That distinction matters when a blockage extends beyond an indoor fixture. It does not prove that a particular backup is in the lateral. The assessment identifies the affected line before you choose cleaning or repair work. A concern with an overflowing public manhole should also be reported through the city’s public-system reporting route.
If previous work identified a sewer-lateral problem, keep the findings available. The team can relate that history to the current complaint and explain what the proposed service will establish. Do not assume that every backup requires work in the street.
