Look Beyond the Start-and-Stop Sound
Water entering the pit, the control setting and the discharge arrangement can all affect cycling. Frequent operation is a symptom to investigate, not proof of one particular failure. The service assessment can determine whether the equipment is operating as intended.

Explain the Cycle Rather Than Adjusting the Equipment
For a pump starting frequently, report how the water level changes before, during and after each run. Water returning soon after shutdown can be relevant to the discharge and check-valve assessment. The float control and incoming water can also influence cycling, so frequency alone does not identify a failed motor.
Leave covers, controls and piping in place while requesting help. Observations from a dry location are useful without opening the system or trying to reproduce an unsafe condition.
